And when He, glorified and exalted is He, clarified the outcome of their matter regarding resurrection and what follows it, and since one of the most important matters for them in the situation with their partners whom they used to invoke, He turned to His saying (the Most High): "And when they see"; meaning: with the eye, on the Day of Resurrection; "those who associated partners"; He also made clear the appropriate description for the position; "their partners"; meaning: the deities they used to call partners; "they said, Our Lord"; O You who have been good to us and have raised us; "these are our partners"; they attributed them to themselves, for there is no reality to their partnership except for their naming it, which necessitates their harm. Then they clarified the intended meaning of their saying: "those whom we used to invoke"; meaning: we worship.

And when the ranks are numerous without His rank, glorified and exalted is He, because His exaltation is not confined, He included the preposition; and He said (the Most High): "besides You"; to bring us closer to You; so honor us for their sake; following their methodology in this world in ignorance and foolishness. The partners feared the consequences of this saying and the acknowledgment of it, the assaults of anger; "so they cast"; meaning: the partners; "to them"; meaning: the polytheists; "the saying"; meaning: they rushed with it, until their hastening to them was like the hastening of something heavy thrown from above. They affirmed their saying, for it is a contradiction to the saying of the polytheists; they said: "Indeed, you are liars"; in making us partners and that we deserve worship, or that we intercede, or that we have a matter by which we deserve to be mentioned.
