Commentary
So it is as if it were said: Was their turning away due to ignorance or stubbornness? It was said about them; and about them: "They know the favor of Allah"; meaning: all of them; "the greatest King"; which some of its counts have preceded in this surah and others; "then they deny it"; by their worship of others who do not bestow it; or by denying the one who brings the warning about it; some of them due to weakness of their knowledge; and some of them out of stubbornness; and some of them would say: It is from Allah; but through the intercession of our deities; "and most of them"; meaning: those who are called upon; in relation to all the people of the earth; who were reached by his call - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - "the disbelievers"; meaning: the stubborn ones; those firmly established in disbelief.
