Commentary
And when he mentioned what concerns them, he followed it with what they share with other animals. So he said: ﴿And Allah﴾; meaning: the One who has glory and honor; ﴿has made for you﴾; meaning: without any need from Him - glorified is He -; ﴿of what He created shadows﴾; from trees; and mountains; and others; ﴿and has made for you﴾; meaning: along with His absolute richness; ﴿from the mountains shelters﴾; the plural of 'kin'; which is what one takes shelter with - meaning: what is concealed - from caves; and similar things; and if the Creator were not a chooser, there would have been a uniformity; no shadows; nor shelters; then he followed that with what guided them to it; as a compensation for what He made for other animals; so he said: ﴿and has made for you﴾; meaning: a favor from Him upon you; ﴿garments﴾; meaning: clothing; ﴿to protect you from the heat﴾; and it is everything that is worn; from a shirt; and others; as al-Zajjaj said.
And when the garments were of one type; he did not repeat 'made'; so he said (the Exalted): ﴿and garments﴾; meaning: armor; and helmets; and others; ﴿to protect you from your violence﴾; he added it to them to indicate that it is in war; and just as He made for the rest of the animals - from wool; and similar things; and fangs; and claws; and similar things - what is like that; to protect from heat; and cold; and from the weapons of the enemy; and He did not mention - glorified is He - here the protection from cold due to its prior mention in His saying (the Exalted): "For you in it is warmth"; and when that was completed, it was as if it was said: He alerted us - glorified is He - with this speech about the completeness of the blessing of existence; so is there any blessing after it? He said: Yes; ﴿Thus﴾; meaning: just as He completed the blessing of existence upon you, this great completion with these matters; and alerted you to them; ﴿He will complete His blessing upon you﴾; in this world and in religion; with guidance; and clarification of the path of salvation; and benefits; and alerting to the details of that; after its great aspects; ﴿so that you may submit﴾; meaning: to be your state - with what you see of the abundance of His kindness; with what no one else can do; along with the clarity of the matter - the state of one who is hoped from him the submission of his leadership to his Lord; so he does not settle; nor move; except in obedience to Him.
