Commentary

And when their reprimand regarding their belief in falsehood and their denial of the truth came to an end, and what followed it, and He concluded with the matter of the Hour, He turned to His saying, glorified and exalted is He: "And Allah has made for you from your own selves spouses"; this is one of the signs of the Hour, and the completeness of power, and the action by choice from the first creation. So He said, glorified and exalted is He: "And Allah"; meaning: the One who has all greatness. "Brought you forth"; by His knowledge and power; "from the wombs of your mothers"; and the One who brought you forth from it is capable of bringing you forth from the belly of the earth, without distinction; rather, in the same manner as the first time, while you were at the time of being brought forth; "you know nothing"; of things, whether few or many. And He turned to "brought you forth"; His saying: "And He made for you"; with that also; "the hearing, the sight, and the hearts"; instruments for removing the ignorance that occurred at birth; and He opened their places, and fashioned them, and adjusted them while you were in the wombs; where His hand does not reach; nor can He split anything from it with a tool; so the One who was able to do that in the wombs creatively is capable of restoring it in the belly of the earth; rather, in the same manner as the first time; and perhaps He gathered them both without the hearing; because the disparity in them is greater than the disparity in it; by that which only Allah knows. And "the hearts"; they are the hearts which He prepared for understanding; and for the rectification of the body; by what He placed in them of the subtle warmth, capable of the precise meanings; "that perhaps you may give thanks"; meaning: that you may become - with the knowledge of the hearts which He granted you - when you hear the admonitions and see the signs - in a state in which your gratitude is hoped; when He poured upon you from the subtleties of His creation; so that you may recognize what He has of knowledge, and power, and the beauty of recognition; so you may acknowledge Him for all that His messengers have brought you; and the most important of it, upon which all the objectives of the fundamentals are built, is that the Bestower upon you of these blessings is one God; All-Knowing of all things; Able to do all things; Acting by choice; and that the natures are among His creations, having no action except by His decree.
