Commentary
And when He mentioned - glorified and exalted is He - this general matter; and alerted to what is in it of strange creation; which was neglected due to the intensity of familiarity with it; He followed it with some of what arises from it of details of matters; containing the wonders of destiny; and He began with the most general of them; and the most closely related to them; and the most abundant in itself; and the greatest in benefit and contribution to their livelihood; He said: ﴿And indeed for you﴾; meaning: O you who are addressed, overwhelmed in blessings; ﴿in the cattle﴾; and when the evidence is expressed from ignorance to knowledge; He said: ﴿a lesson﴾; as if it were said: What is it? It was said: ﴿We give you to drink﴾; with the noon being pronounced; in the reading of the congregation; from 'asqāhu'; if He prepared for him what he drinks continuously; from a river; or milk; or otherwise; and with the opening; in the reading of Nafi', Ibn 'Amir, and 'Asim, in the narration of Shu'bah: from 'saqāhu'; if He offered him something and he drank it.
And when 'the cattle' is a plural name; it is singular; as Sibawayh mentioned; and he mentioned the drinkable; which is milk; due to what the context of the surah necessitated from the enumeration of blessings; thus the intention of the females became clear; and the ambiguity was removed with the mention of the pronoun; He said (the Most High): ﴿from what﴾; meaning: from some of what; ﴿is in their bellies﴾; and He mentioned the pronoun for the sake of clarity; and to indicate the strength of the meaning; because it is the surah of blessings; unlike what is in 'the believers'.
And when the place of the lesson is the extraction of milk from other than it; He preceded His saying (the Most High): ﴿from between excrement﴾; which is the waste that descends to the stomach; and when it exits from it, it is not called excrement; ﴿and blood, pure milk﴾; from a mixture of either of them; or from other than them; (p-194) that is sought after by a color or smell; from Ibn 'Abbas - may Allah be pleased with both of them -: When the animal eats the fodder; and it settles in its stomach; it cooks it; so its lower part is excrement; and its middle part is milk; and its upper part is blood; and the liver is dominant over these three types dividing them; so the blood flows in the veins; and the milk in the udder; and the excrement remains in the stomach; ﴿easy to swallow﴾; meaning: easy to pass in the throat; ﴿for the drinkers﴾;
