Commentary
And when what preceded was a sign of their aversion to what they attributed to Allah, glorified and exalted is He; He followed it with a clear statement after the hint, by saying: "And they attribute to Allah"; meaning: He is the Greatest King; "what they dislike"; meaning: for themselves; of daughters; and wealth; and partners in leadership; and of belittling His messengers; and His armies; and being careless with His messages. Then He described their audacity with that, which occurs in a state of fear, necessitating a lack of contemplation due to a lack of reason. He said: "And they say"; meaning: they say, believing along with the statement of purity; and since it is a saying that has no reality whatsoever; He attributed it to the tongue; saying: "Their tongues"; meaning: along with that; even though it is a saying that should not be imagined by a rational person; "the lie"; then He clarified it with His saying: "that for them is the best"; meaning: with Him; and there is no greater ignorance; nor worse judgment than to assert that whoever you attribute to what you dislike will grant you what you love. It is as if it were said: So what do they have with Him? It was said: "No doubt"; meaning: there is no assumption; nor hesitation in "that for them is the Fire"; which is the recompense of the wrongdoers; "and that they are hastened"; meaning: they are brought forward; hastened to it; by the one who drives them and hastens them to it. And Al-Rummani said: They are left in it; from the saying of the Arabs: "I did not leave anyone behind me"; meaning: I did not leave; nor abandon; and Nafi' read with leniency and a kasra; meaning: they are excessive in extravagance; and audacity against Allah.
