Commentary
Then he clarified their condition when they received a type of what they made for Him - glorified and exalted is He -; so He said (the Most High): ﴿And when﴾; meaning: they made this; while the condition is that when ﴿one of them is given good tidings﴾; and when the fear is removed; he combined between the two basenesses; as he clarified at the end of 'As-Saffat'; so He said (the Most High): ﴿of a female﴾; meaning: he opposed this good tidings (p-184) that deserves joy at the arrival of a soul that would be a cause for the increase of this type; and it may be a cause for his happiness; indicating the greatness of Allah; contrary to what it deserves; of that which does not benefit him at all; by saying ﴿his face became dark﴾; and he alluded to frowning; and distress; and gloom; with what boils within him from anger; by His saying (the Most High): ﴿blackened﴾; meaning: from grief; and dislike; and perhaps the term 'became dark' was chosen; which means the action during the day; although the intended meaning is the generality in the day and otherwise; indicating the prominence of this description as prominent as what is seen during the day; ﴿and he is filled with rage﴾; full of anger towards the woman; and she has no guilt whatsoever; and 'good tidings' in the original language: is the news that changes the countenance from sadness; or joy; then it was specifically referred to in the common language as joy; and it can only be with the first news; and perhaps he expressed it with this term as a warning about their inversion of matters; in their making; and their joy; and their sadness; and other than that from their affairs.
