Commentary
And when He made clear their foolishness in their turning away from what He had given them to what is in the count of non-existence; which is unknown; He made clear to them a foolishness that is greater than that; by making for the Owner of the Kingdom; and its King; the most insignificant of what they prepare from what He has created for them; due to their need for Him; and His independence from them; in a manner that is impossible for Him; along with their aversion to themselves; so that became the most astonishing of wonders; and He said (the Exalted): ﴿And they assign to Allah﴾; meaning: the One for whom there is no known reality besides Him; for He encompasses the attributes of majesty and honor; and when the intent was to reprimand them; and femininity is sometimes attributed to the noble trees; He specified the intended meaning by His saying: ﴿the daughters﴾; so there is no wonder from them; as they assign existence to the nonexistent and unknown; and they assign non-existence to the existent and known; then He glorified Himself from that; marveling at its occurrence from a rational being; by His saying (the Exalted): ﴿Glorified is He﴾.
And when He mentioned what they assigned to Him; along with absolute richness; He made clear what they attributed to themselves; along with the necessity of need; and weakness; and He said: ﴿And for them is what they desire﴾; from sons; and that is in a nominal sentence; its implication is permanence; so that it becomes a call against them with disgrace; for they will not remain for their sons; nor will their sons remain for them; and they may be the fiercest of their enemies;.
