Commentary

And that was followed by what necessitates the magnification of the denial against them. He said - clarifying that no fear or hope should be attached except to Him -: ﴿And whatever is with you﴾; meaning: it is mixed with you, O people, generally; your believers and your disbelievers; ﴿of blessing﴾; meaning: whether great or insignificant; ﴿then it is from Allah﴾; meaning: the One who encompasses everything; alone; not from others.

And when their sincerity to Him - while claiming the divinity of others - was something unlikely; He expressed it with a tool of delay and distance in His saying (the Exalted): ﴿Then when hardship touches you﴾; meaning: the slightest touch; (p-180) ﴿the harm﴾; by the removal of a blessing from what He has bestowed upon you; ﴿then to Him﴾; meaning: alone; ﴿you cry out﴾; meaning: you raise your voices in seeking help; for what He has instilled in your original sound natures that there is no refuge or escape from Him except to Him.
