Commentary
And when He judged upon the shadows with what encompassed its companions from inanimate objects and animals; and the animal is more noble than the inanimate; He elevated the judgment to it specifically; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿And to Allah﴾; meaning: to Him belongs all command; ﴿prostrates﴾; meaning: submits by yielding to the decrees; and flows under the judgments; and He expressed what is apparent in the non-intelligent; while it includes them; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿What is in the heavens﴾; and when the context was to emphasize the judgment upon the obedient and the disobedient; He repeated the relative clause; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿And what is in the earth﴾; then He clarified that by His saying (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿From creatures﴾; meaning: rational and non-rational.
