Commentary
(p-149) And when Allah, the Most High, informed about the conditions of the disbelievers; those asking about the descent of the angels; after He weakened their doubts; and informed about the angels taking their souls; and for their opposites, the believers; indicating by this that His custom has been that they do not descend except to bring the spirit from His command; upon whom He specifically chooses for that; or for a decisive matter; there is no delay in it; He said - denying them -: ﴿Are they waiting﴾; meaning: these disbelievers; in their reluctance to believe the messengers in the news of what their Lord has revealed; and He stripped the action as an indication of the proximity of what they are waiting for; ﴿except that the angels come to them﴾; meaning: by the command of Allah; ﴿the angels﴾; and they do not come to them except with what they brought to those before them; from whom we narrated their affair from the wrongdoers if they do not repent; ﴿or the command of your Lord comes﴾; meaning: the Benefactor towards you; the Planner of your affair; with a matter that separates the dispute without the mediation of an angel; or otherwise.

It was said: Yes; ﴿So﴾; meaning: like this distant action - due to its ugliness - from the paths of the wise; a plot in planning harm; (p-150) and belief; and words; ﴿The ones who did﴾; and when the doers are like their actions; in denial; they did not take long; the preposition was included; so He said (the Most High): ﴿before them and what﴾; meaning: while it is that He ﴿did not wrong them﴾; meaning: the One who has all perfection; in decreeing that upon them; because He is the absolute owner of control; and the king who is not questioned about what He does; ﴿But they were﴾; meaning: by nature; and disposition; ﴿themselves﴾; meaning: specifically; ﴿wronging﴾; so they deserved punishment; for establishing the proof against them; according to the custom that your habits have followed; concerning whoever committed evil without being compelled to it by obvious coercion; and this is precisely the reason for sending the messengers; and establishing the laws; and the religions;
