Commentary
And when the news was completed about the denier of what Allah has revealed through the tongues of the angels; from the spirit from His command; upon the prophets - blessings and peace be upon them -; in denial of their virtue; and arrogance with what is not theirs; by opposing their Creator; the news began about the affirmers confirming their guidance; and acknowledging their virtue; and submitting to those who are His servants; in preferring whom He wills; alerting to the description that necessitated for them the acknowledgment of the truth; He said - omitting 'if'; indicating acceptance of the easiest thing of good; and praise upon it; even if it does not repeat -: 'And it was said to those who feared [Allah]'; meaning: feared the punishment of Allah; 'What'; meaning: what thing; 'has your Lord sent down'; meaning: the Benefactor to you from His spirit; the giver of life to souls; upon His Messenger; 'They said'; acknowledging the revelation; not hesitating in the saying; understanding that 'this' is confirming the question; not meaning 'that which': sent down 'good'; rather the readers unanimously agreed on the accusative of this; and the nominative of the first; differentiating between the responses of the affirmers; and the denier; by matching the affirmers between the response; and the question; and the deviation of the denier in his response (p-147) from the question; then he began to encourage regarding what they have of good outcomes; in the manner of responding to the question of one who seemed to say: what do they have regarding that? So it was said - revealing the place of the implicit; praising them; and generalizing for whoever is characterized by their description -: 'For those who have done good'; thus clarifying that their acknowledgment of that is good; then he informed about it by saying: 'In this world is goodness'; meaning: a reward for them for their goodness - 'Is there any reward for good except good?' [Ar-Rahman: 60]
And when this abode is quick to vanish; he informed about their state in the Hereafter; so he said: 'And the abode of the Hereafter is better'; meaning: a reward and destination; then he praised it; and praised them; by His saying (the Exalted): 'And how excellent is the abode of the righteous'; meaning: it is; encouraging in the description that was the reason for their attainment of it; which is fear; opposing what he described the wicked with; of arrogance; by revealing the place of the implicit; and omitting the specific in praise; due to the precedence of what indicates it; and it is suitable for the estimation of this world - meaning: for whoever works in it with piety - and for the estimation of the Hereafter; and this is clear.
