Commentary
And when what has passed was a place for contemplation that produces knowledge of the oneness of the Creator and His choice; and contemplation in that is a reminder of what follows it from the secret of the disparity in color, which cannot be precisely categorized in writing; and in that is the completion of refuting the saying about the influence of the celestial bodies and the natures; because their relation to all parts of a single paper and a single seed is one; Allah, the Exalted, said - in connection with 'the night' -: ﴿And what He created﴾; meaning: He created; and spread; and differentiated the soil and the water; ﴿For you﴾; meaning: specifically; so be grateful to Him; and know that He has not singled you out with this great arrangement except for great wisdom; the greatest of which is the manifestation of His majesty on the Day of Judgment; ﴿In the earth﴾; meaning: of what He mentioned; and others; while being ﴿Different in colors﴾; even in a single paper; so you see one side of it - rather, some of it - in the utmost redness; and the other in the utmost blackness; or yellowness; and so on; if the influencer were necessarily causal, this disparity in effects would not have occurred; thus it is known for certain that He is only capable and chosen; and He did not mention the difference in forms; because their indication - due to the difference in the shapes of the stars from the sky, and the shapes of the mountains, and the hills, and the valleys of the earth - is not on the refutation of nature as the indication of the difference in color is.
And when that was - even though it is outside the limit in spreading - one from the aspect of being a color; it unified the verse; so He said: ﴿Indeed, in that﴾; what He created in this state; in this great manner; ﴿is a sign﴾; and when He alerted in the one before it that the matter has reached a clarity that does not require anything other than the obviousness of the mind; He alerted here that this is known, but has been affected by forgetfulness and negligence; urging to exert effort in contemplating that; and indicating that its indication of the intended is in utmost clarity; so He said: ﴿For a people who reflect﴾; and if they did not delve deeply; with what the merging has conveyed; and 'reflection' is the seeking of meaning by contemplating its relation; so there must be a presence of a meaning that is sought for the sake of another; and He, glorified is He, has arranged that in the most exquisite order; for He mentioned the composite bodies in general; then specified the animals; then the living body in general, which is the plant; then the simples; from water and the like; then the attributes; from colors.
