And when the decree was: So be patient; He addressed it; singling him out - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - with the command; in reverence for him; and as consolation regarding what was the cause of the revelation of the verse; from the comparison with his uncle Hamzah - may Allah be pleased with him -; and to highlight the greatness of the station of patience; as an increase in urging the nation; for the command of the leader is more compelling for the obedience of his followers; so He said (the Exalted): ﴿And be patient﴾; then He followed that with what encourages the continuity of resorting to Him; which produces vigilance; and annihilation from other than Him; then the annihilation from annihilation; so that it is not imagined that anyone has an independent action; so He said (the Exalted): ﴿And what is your patience﴾; meaning: O Messenger (p-283) the Greatest; ﴿except by Allah﴾; meaning: the Greatest King; who has legislated for you this most upright legislation; while you are steadfast in supporting it; and he faced this matter - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - with the highest ranks of patience; and that is because they represented the slain Muslims in the battle of 'Uhud'; except for Hanzalah the washed - may Allah be pleased with him -; for his father was with them; so they left him for him; "So when the Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - stood over his uncle Hamzah - may Allah be pleased with him - he found that they had mutilated his nose; and cut off his ears; and severed his male organs; and opened his stomach; he looked at something he had never looked at that was more painful for his heart than it; and he said: 'May Allah's mercy be upon you; for you were active in doing good; and maintaining family ties; and if it were not for the fact that my aunt would grieve, I would be pleased to leave you until you are resurrected from various bellies; but by Allah; if Allah grants me victory over them, I will certainly mutilate seventy of them.'" And the companions - may Allah be pleased with them - said: 'We will certainly increase upon their actions'; so when the verse was revealed, he - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - hastened to comply; and he would not deliver a sermon except that he forbade mutilation; and he acted well on the day of the conquest by forbidding fighting them; after they had fallen into his grasp - blessings and peace be upon him and his family; and he was honored; and respected; and revered and exalted always forever. (p-284) And when - after conditioning the soul for patience; and emptying the heart of resentment - it returns to the sorrow over their destruction of themselves by their persistence in transgression against Allah (the Exalted); He said - glorified is He -: ﴿And do not grieve for them﴾; meaning: in the severity of their disbelief; so you do not exaggerate in the intense eagerness that destroys the soul.
And when - glorified is He - in the station of good tidings; with the great place; and the serious abode; which no bearer of glad tidings nor warner possessed before our Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him and his family -; and that is the night journey to the highest kingdom; and the supreme station of the highest heavens; in the sacred presence; and the places of intimacy; and He prepared for that in the Surah of Blessings; with the stations of generosity; until the arrival was near; He was concise in the expression by omitting a letter that is unnecessary; indicating to it; so He said: ﴿And do not be﴾; by omitting the noon; indicating the constriction of the situation from the slightest prolongation:
And the longing is most intense on a day when the homes draw near to one another. This is contrary to what comes in the Surah of 'An-Naml'; if Allah wills, 'in distress'; and even if it is little - as indicated by the tanween of belittlement; by what the omission of the noon suggests. The harm of the disbelievers, which the context is for consolation about, does not harm you in the purpose for which you were sent, which is to manifest the religion and to suppress the corruptors in one of the ways. 'From what they plot'; meaning: from the continuation of their plotting against you. 'And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you' [Al-Hijr: 99]; and as if you are with it; and it has come; so be patient; for indeed Allah, glorified and exalted is He, will honor you and manifest your religion, even if they dislike it.
