Commentary

And when their persistence in disbelief was more astonishing than their reverting, He followed it with its cause and said (the Most High): ﴿Those﴾; meaning: the distant ones, the despised ones; ﴿whom Allah has sealed﴾; meaning: He has sealed them with a seal; it is sufficient for destruction; ﴿on their hearts﴾; and when the disparity in hearing is rare, He unified it; so He said (the Most High): ﴿and their hearing and their sight﴾; so they became - due to their lack of benefit from these senses - as if they do not understand; nor do they hear; nor do they see; ﴿And those﴾; meaning: the far ones from all good; ﴿they are the heedless﴾; meaning: those who are completely heedless.
