Commentary
So it is as if it were said: What should I say? He said: "Say"; to whoever among them confronted you with that: "It was revealed"; meaning: the Qur'an; according to the gradual process for the sake of following the interests; for the comprehensive knowledge of the speaker regarding it; "the Spirit of the Holy"; which is a spirit all of it; there is no call to desire in it; so how can it be imagined that what He reveals is a fabrication; especially with its addition to the utmost purity? He reveals it "from your Lord"; O addressed one; who has done good to you by revealing it; then by changing it; according to the interests; just as He has done good in your upbringing by moving from one state to another; what is suitable in one of them is not suitable in another; from the outward to the inward; then from nursing to weaning; and what comes after that; so how can you deny the changing of rulings for the interests; and not deny the changing of states for that? While that revelation is "with the truth"; meaning: the established matter; which is exalted above the claim of fabrication that it cannot be refuted; "to establish"; meaning: a great establishment; "those who believe"; in their religion; by what they see of the miracle of the substitute; and the substituted; with the contradiction of the rulings; and what is in it of wisdom; and interests; according to those states - along with what was in the abrogated of similar matters; according to the previous states - and to train them on the goodness of submission; and to know by the quickness of their submission in leaving the desires the completeness of their surrender; and their purity from the impurities of desire; then he added to the place of "to establish"; his saying: "and guidance"; meaning: a clear statement; "and good tidings"; meaning: by what is in it of the renewal of the covenant with the Most High King; and the messenger's movement between Him and them; through the mediation of their Prophet - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - "for the Muslims"; those who submit and are free from the arrogance that obscures understanding; that blinds dreams; and were it not for such benefits, the wisdom of its gradual revelation would have been missed.
