Then he said: "Those"; meaning: although they divided in order to kill you; and they divided the paths of Makkah to turn people away from you; "They made the Quran"; by their sayings; "divided"; meaning: they divided the saying about it, while the state is that it is comprehensive of meanings; not scattered in its structures; the arrangement of the composition is very orderly; the connection is more firmly united; as we have previously indicated by naming it a Book; and a Quran; and we concluded that this is in the manner of clarification, there is no concealment in it; so all their words are obstinacy; they said: magic; and they said: poetry; and they said: soothsaying; and they said: legends of the ancients; and other than that; We sent down to them Our clear signs; and Our evident proofs; but they turned away from them; and occupied themselves with what does not benefit them from obstinacy and other than it; the habit of those; so let them await what befell them; and like them is everyone who spoke about the Quran with such; of what is not appropriate from the Arabs; and others; and Al-Bukhari narrated from Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with them both -: "They made the Quran divided"; he said: they are the people of the Book: the Jews; and the Christians; they divided it into parts; so they believed in some of it; and disbelieved in some of it; and the meaning of this word will come.
