Commentary
And when He - glorified and exalted is He - indicated the evidence by the signs; the indication - by what it is in contradiction to all the fresh waters of the earth that come to it in abundance; and although the lands that are in it are among the most delightful lands in the freshness of the waters; and the freshness of the earth; and the beauty of the trees; and other than that - it has a news that is of utmost strangeness; and following that is the ease of access to it; urging to come to it with the intention of observing it; and reflecting upon it; and asking about the reason for its being like that; He said (the Most High) - indicating an increase in urging with emphasis -: "Indeed, in that"; meaning: the great matter of its state; "is a sign"; meaning: a great sign in indicating to us; "for the believers"; meaning: those firmly rooted in truth; and affirmation; so if they are informed that the reason for its being like this is that Allah commanded some of His soldiers to raise it; then He turned it upside down; then He followed it with stones; then He caused it to sink; and submerged it (p-79) with this water - which is in filth; and the lack of fruit is suitable for the actions of its people - due to their disobedience to His Messenger - blessings and peace be upon him and his family -; they believed; fearing from such a punishment; in faith of the unseen.
