Commentary
﴿When they entered upon him﴾; meaning: Ibrahim - blessings and peace be upon him - ﴿they said﴾; meaning: after entering; ﴿Peace﴾.
And when their request in this form was for the angels; it was in a manner more certain than that in the Surah of 'Hud' - blessings and peace be upon him -; he indicated to them what there is in the sight of the angels of fear; even though they were bearers of good news; and in the best form of human appearance; by his saying: ﴿He said﴾; with the tongue of the state; or the saying: ﴿Indeed, we﴾; meaning: I and those with me; ﴿are fearful of you﴾; and he omitted the mention of his response with peace; and this does not detract from what is mentioned in the Surah of 'Hud' and others.
For 'When' is a time indicator; meaning 'when'; and 'the time' can be broad; so sometimes all of it is mentioned in its order; and at other times in a different manner; and sometimes part of it is mentioned; with the omission of some; while all aspects of the report are truthful; because it included all; and these variations can occur in these ways for meanings that Allah wills to extract.
