Commentary
And when he completed - glorified and exalted is He - the explanation of His saying: ﴿And let them know that He is but one God﴾ [Ibrahim: 52]; and what follows it as evidence of resurrection; he began explaining ﴿And let those of understanding take heed﴾ [Ibrahim: 52]; with the story of the Friend - blessings and peace be upon him -; and what comes after it; while fulfilling the mention of the Hereafter; sometimes alluding to it; and sometimes stating it explicitly; and warning against the audacity to seek to bring forth the angels - peace be upon them -; and turning to His saying: ﴿All praise is due to Allah, who has granted me in old age Ishmael and Isaac﴾ [Ibrahim: 39]; in a manner that clarifies what this story has followed; for indeed, the occurrence of despair is a reason for the verse of forgiveness; and the news of the punishment of the nations is a representation of the verse of punishment; so that the addressed may be deterred; and He singled out for them the mention of one who is closer to their lands than those whom they know among the punished; because it has a greater impact on the soul; so He said (exalted is He): ﴿And inform them﴾; meaning: inform them with a great news; ﴿About the guests of Abraham﴾; and "the guest"; is one who joins others in seeking hospitality; so these were named by this name because they were in the form of guests; and it is from the indication of inclusion.
