Commentary
So it is as if it were said: What did the king do with him? It was said: He did not hasten him with punishment; rather, he delayed him until his appointed time, which was decreed in eternity. Just as he did not hasten you for that; so it is as if it were said: What did he say to him? It was said: He said to him; to establish the proof against him before the creatures, manifestly; just as the proof was presented to him in knowledge, inwardly: 'O Iblis'; he chose this name here; because the meaning of 'iblās' is despair from all good; and stillness, and brokenness; and sadness and confusion; and the cessation of proof; and regret; 'What is wrong with you'; what excuse do you have in 'not being'; that is: in your heart and your form; 'with those who prostrate'; to whom I commanded you to prostrate; and you know from what I am upon of greatness and majesty that which many of the creation do not know?
