Commentary
And when he mentioned the verse of the heavens, he followed it with the verse of the earth. He said: "And the earth We have spread out." This means: with what We have of greatness, in the three dimensions: length, width, and depth, upon the water. "And We placed" means: with Our greatness, "in it" means: the earth, mountains, "firmly anchored" means: stable, so that it does not sway with its inhabitants, and to be for them signs. Then he pointed out the revival of the dead by what He has bestowed in the earth, with a clear analogy, by His saying: "And We caused to grow in it" means: the earth, especially the mountains, with Our magnificent power, "of every balanced thing" means: predetermined according to wisdom, of minerals and plants.
