Commentary
And when he informed him of these secrets, revealing their conditions, the soul was most eager to cut off the argument of the obstinate by answering his question. He (the Most High) said, informing of the truth of what he concluded with, that they do not believe in the miraculous signs, even if they saw something more astonishing than the coming of the angels: ﴿And if We opened﴾; meaning: by what We have of greatness; ﴿upon them﴾; meaning: upon those who said: If only you would bring us the angels; ﴿a door﴾; that corresponds to Our greatness; ﴿from the heavens﴾; and he indicated that this is their state - even if they were in the clearest times, which is the day - by saying: ﴿So they remained﴾; meaning: the disbelievers; ﴿in it﴾; meaning: that high door; ﴿ascending﴾; meaning: they are rising, walking in the ascent; the walking of joy.
