Commentary
And when the greatness of that day, in which the eyes will be fixed, is established, and it is the greatest day in which retribution will manifest, He clarified it by His saying: "The Day the earth will be changed"; meaning a strange and great changing. "The earth" refers to this type, "other than the earth"; meaning the one you know. "And the heavens" after the spreading of its stars and its splitting and other matters of it. And the changing is the alteration of a thing or its attribute to a substitute. "And they will appear"; meaning the wrongdoers who used to say that they will not be presented before Allah for reckoning. And the appearing is the emergence of a person from what he was concealed in. "Before Allah"; meaning the One who has the attributes of perfection, "the One" who has no partner, "the Subduer" who nothing can oppose Him in His will. Thus, they became in that appearing in such a way that they do not doubt that nothing is hidden from them. As for the believers, they have always known that. (p-439) It was narrated by Muslim and Tirmidhi from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, about His saying: 'The Day the earth will be changed' (the verse). I said: O Messenger of Allah, where will the people be on that day? He said: On the bridge."
