Commentary
And the state is that it has become clear to you that when we acted with them as we did, "and they had plotted their plot," meaning the severe and great one in which they exerted their efforts to the extent that they had no plot left other than it in supporting disbelief and nullifying the truth. And the plot is the act of causing harm through a means of deception. And the state is that "with Allah," meaning the One who encompasses knowledge and power, "their plot" is known only to Him in all its aspects, no matter how subtle, and He is capable of nullifying it, no matter how great. And if their plot is of strength and magnitude, "so that the mountains may depart from it," meaning in order that the mountains may depart from it. The interpretation is based on the reading of the opening of the first 'lam' and the raising of the second: and if it is such that the mountains depart from it, and the two meanings are close. It is said that "indeed" is negating, and the 'lam' is for emphasizing the negation; and the mountains are the signs and legislations, rather they are more firmly established.
