Commentary
And when he concluded his supplication with the Day of Judgment, which necessitates mentioning every happiness and forgetting every misery, he mentioned some of what is consistent in returning to what has passed of the conditions of the Day of Resurrection in the best manner. He said - adding to his saying ﴿Say to My servants﴾ [Ibrahim: 31] and the main purpose is to threaten the people of oppression with polytheism and others. He addressed [the head] from which this cannot be, so that it would be more impactful in the heart of others: ﴿And do not think that Allah﴾ meaning the Greatest King, who is the Most Just of judges.
And when the [belief in] neglecting the reckoning necessitates attributing the judge to incapacity, folly, or negligence, and He has established His ability and wisdom in this surah and others, being free from negligence, so that the deniers of resurrection may awaken from their negligence, He said: 'Negligent.' And negligence is the departure of meaning from the self ﴿from what the wrongdoers do﴾ who have exchanged the favor of Allah for disbelief, so they were deeply rooted in oppression even if the basis of their oppression were scientific doubts they establish. It is as if it was said: So what will be done with them? He said: ﴿Indeed, He only delays them﴾ meaning He delays their reckoning regarding the smallest and the minutest, whether they are punished in this world or not ﴿for a Day when the eyes will be fixed﴾ meaning they will be opened to the point that there will be no turning away ﴿from them﴾ ﴿the eyes﴾ meaning in the state of their being.
