Commentary
And when He negated all beneficial causes in this [day], it was as if it were said: So is it from the judgment in it that He moves in a way we do not know? It was said: "Allah," meaning the Most High King, encompassing all things; then He followed it with attributes that indicate what the messengers called to regarding His oneness and what they were informed of regarding His ability over all things, so no one is able to overcome Him, and regarding the Hereafter and His wealth, so He does not trade. He said: "The One who created the heavens and the earth," and they are greater in creation than you and of greater significance. Then He followed it with the most evident matters regarding resurrection, along with what it contains of great favor that by it is life. He said: "And He sent down from the heavens water."
And when that was the cause of growth, He said: "So He brought forth by it," meaning by the water which He made from it every living thing, "from the fruits," meaning the tree fruits and others, "as provision for you" after the dryness of the earth and the withering of its vegetation, and this is not without the revival of the dead. Then He followed it with what He stored in the earth of the waters of the seas and rivers, [and He mentioned what appears from the seas] saying: "And He subjected for you the ships," and He explained that by saying: "to sail in the sea." And when that was a remarkable matter for the intellect, He clarified its greatness by saying: "by His command." And when the rivers were among the great blessings after the blessing of the seas, He said: "And He subjected for you the rivers."
