And when he mentioned their disbelief and their deviation from the path, and what he was commanded, blessings and peace be upon him and his family, to say to them, that was a motivator for the listener's soul to reflect on what is said to one who has abandoned the idols. The most secure bond of the path after faith, and the most comprehensive of it, is the prayer that prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the comprehensive spending for the various acts of righteousness. He, exalted is He, commanded him to urge His allies to turn towards what His enemies have turned away from, and to turn away from what they have engaged in enjoying. So he said, "Say to My servants" and he described them with the noblest of their attributes, and he associated them with His noble self to endear them to it. Then he followed this description with what is appropriate for their submission to their master, saying: "those who have believed," meaning they have embodied this description.

And when his saying, blessings and peace be upon him and his family, is the best of sayings, it clarifies the rust of hearts and necessitates the refinement of souls. He said decisively: "establish the prayer," which is the purification of strength and the connection of the servant with his Lord, "and spend" and he alleviated the burden on them by saying: "from what We have provided them," meaning from Our greatness, for it is for Us, not for them, from the types of spending that uphold His laws, such as almsgiving and others, perfecting what is between them and Him from the means to save themselves from the Fire. He limited himself to these two qualities because nothing else was prescribed in Mecca besides them, along with what has preceded of their virtue and comprehensiveness. And perhaps it was mentioned in the context of a condition to alert them that merely his saying, blessings and peace be upon him and his family, is the strongest of causes, so they must not neglect it at all. Then he indicated to the continuity in these two traits by saying: "in secret and openly." It is permissible that by "secret" he means the voluntary prayer, and by "openly" he means the obligatory prayer. Then he warned those who were negligent in their service from the day when turning away from it was the cause of misguidance, saying, indicating with the neighbor to the short duration of their actions: "before a day comes," meaning a very great day that is not like any of the days you know, "there will be no trade in it" for a captive to be ransomed, "nor friendship," meaning friendships or alliances that would lead to intercession or support, the plural of khillah like qillah and qilaal, or it is a source. And that indicates that neither of them will be a cause for the salvation of the doomed.
