Commentary
And when this action is that of one who has no intellect, He clarified it by His saying: ﴿And they made for Allah﴾, the One whom they know has no partner in their creation nor in their provision, for He has all perfection ﴿equals﴾. And He said: ﴿To mislead﴾, meaning by themselves according to the reading of Ibn Kathir and Abu Amr, and they include others according to the reading of the rest, 'from His path', for if they were rational, they would know that this is a necessary consequence of their actions, so they are intent on it. Otherwise, they have no intellect, for no one advances towards what is unknown in its outcome except a fool. And they say: Indeed, they are the most insightful of people in speech, and the purest of them in intellect, and the sharpest of them in thoughts, and the strongest of them in opinions. So who among them is more committed to the path of salvation, and who among them is more cautious of the paths of destruction? While they have placed themselves in this severe disease.
And when it became clear that they are against all that they call for, they became worthy of being turned away from. And he, blessings and peace be upon him, was hesitant to say: So what should I do with them when You have commanded me to bring them to Your path? He was commanded to strike their necks by informing them that what has misled them from the blessings is merely a gradual leading astray. So he said: "Say", meaning as a threat to them, for they do not doubt your words even if they oppose: ﴿Enjoy yourselves﴾ and indulge in the actions of beasts as much as you can, for that is harmful to you and not beneficial ﴿For indeed your destination﴾, meaning your eventual outcome ﴿is to the Fire﴾ because of your enjoyment in this manner.
