And when he referred to what is for the disbelievers, he described them with what hindered them from accepting good and left them in the valleys of evil. He said: "Those who prefer" meaning they seek to love or create love with utmost desire, following their whims. "The worldly life" is the first existence which is the abode of transition, preferring it "over the Hereafter" meaning the other existence which is the abode of permanence. This is because they follow their souls in loving it until they are as if they are seekers of it. This is evidence that love can be by will; and love is the inclination of natures towards something with desire. They refrain out of fear for their worldly life from which their leadership comes, from walking the straight path. And they add to that that they "turn away" meaning they turn themselves away and prevent others "from the path of Allah" meaning the way of the Greatest King; and the path is the method prepared for walking. And they increase upon that that they "seek it" meaning they ask for it, having omitted the preposition and connected the verb for emphasis. "Crookedness" and crookedness is deviation from straightness, and it is with a broken 'ain in religion, command, and land, and with a fatha in everything that is upright like a wall and a spear and similar to them. "Those are" meaning the distant and despised "in a far error" meaning away from the truth, a figurative attribution, because the far one is the people of error by their inclination from the everlasting to the transient and by their seeking crookedness in what Allah has established, who encompasses everything with ability and knowledge.
