Commentary

And when it was indicated that it is a place of destruction, it was made clear in a way that they understand that they will meet them with frowning, just as they used to meet the allies of Allah from the messengers and others with that. So he said: ﴿Hell﴾ while they are ﴿burning in it﴾, meaning they are experiencing its heat while they are immersed in it, as it envelops them. And since the implication is: how evil is the place they have made permissible for themselves and their people, he added to it his saying: ﴿And how evil is the abode﴾, that is the place they have made permissible for them.
