Commentary
And when it has been established by what has passed that the truth is what Allah has said, or done, or permitted, and that falsehood is what is contrary to His command, attributed to Satan or others, in words or actions, and that it is not appropriate in wisdom to negate the truth nor to allow falsehood to remain, "Indeed, Allah does not rectify the work of the corruptors" [Yunus: 81] "And Allah affirms the truth by His words" [Yunus: 82] "To affirm the truth and to invalidate falsehood" [Al-Anfal: 8], and glorified is He, He has narrated the words of His allies, which are from His words. They are the most established, the most pleasant, and the greatest in fruit. And the words of His enemies, which are from the words of Satan, are the most invalid and the most vile. Glorified is He, He has brought this closer with a parable that is familiar to the interlocutors, saying: "Did you not see" meaning, O you who do not understand this parable as it should be understood! "How Allah has struck a parable" meaning, the One who encompasses everything in power and knowledge, "as a good word" meaning, it encompasses all types of goodness, and there is nothing vile in it. That word is "like a good tree." And when it does not thrive except with steadfastness, He said: "Its root is firmly established" meaning, it is rooted in the earth, safe from being uprooted by winds and the like, "and its branch" is high, rising, and swaying "in the direction of the sky" due to the goodness of its growth and the purity of its element. Thus, the verse contains a figure of speech: the mention of "firmly established" first indicates a high and rising second, and the mention of "the sky" second indicates the earth first.
