Then he follows it with what is a proof of his failure, that his journey towards what lies ahead of him from the punishment is certain to occur, and he is unaware of it. He expressed his negligence regarding it by saying: ﴿Behind him is Hell﴾, meaning that he must certainly take his place in it.

And since the reference is the existence of the drink for the one who is punished absolutely, his saying: ﴿And he will be given to drink﴾ is based on the passive form, meaning in it ﴿from a water of pus﴾, which is the washing of the people of the Fire, like their pus and their blood.
