Commentary
And when he described the two scholars as the abode towards which is the truth, by the soundness of minds and the authenticity of the performance leading to the righteousness that necessitates every happiness, and the disbelievers in it by the weakness of minds leading to the corruption that results in the evil of the abode, and he passed in what is appropriate to it until he concluded it with what he concluded that, he added to that his saying - and it can be that its connection to what preceded it is that it is added to an omitted cause for the conclusion of the previous verse, its estimation being: because they were displeased with what was revealed to him out of envy and ignorance -: "And those whom We have given the Scripture" meaning: by what We have of the greatness that rescued them from misguidance "the Book" and they did not disbelieve in the Most Merciful nor in what was revealed nor in whom He sent "they rejoice in what" and when the revealed is indicative by its miraculous nature of the one who revealed it, he built for the object of the action his saying: "It has been revealed to you" meaning: from this greatest Book due to its agreement with those books because the words of Allah are all from one source, and their specification is because they are the ones who benefit from the Book without others, as if it was revealed only to them, and this addition (p-356) suggests that the connected is there raised by the beginning "and from the factions" of the people of idols and the scholars who conspired against the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, "who denies some of it" such as the oneness of Allah, the description of Islam, the prophethood of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and what follows that of what they have distorted and altered, and he wants the matter to be dependent in it on his purpose, for the polytheists want him to praise their deities in some of the verses or to drop the description of them with blame, and the Jews want what agrees with the branches of the Torah to be revealed just as what agreed with the roots was revealed, and they deny abrogation, and the people of the Gospel want what they desire to be revealed concerning the Messiah and so on; the interpreters said: they did not deny the stories and some of the rulings and the knowledge that is established in their books without alteration, so for their disbelief in that part he was commanded to inform them of his belief that they disbelieved or were grateful, so he said: "Say, I have only been commanded" meaning: the decisive command has occurred which there is no doubt about and no change from the one to whom belongs all command "to worship Allah" meaning: the One who has nothing like Him alone, and for that he said: "and I do not associate with Him" I do not do except what He commands me without regard to others, my religion is confined to what you have denied "to Him" alone "I call and to Him" specifically "is my return" meaning: my return and its place and time, meaning with repentance at the time of neglecting the fulfillment of His right, and a sense of resurrection for recompense; and the Book: the sheet in which is the writing - and it is the writing, and it is the composition of the letters that are read in the sheet, and joy: the delight of the heart that dispels the worry by attaining the desired, and the party: the group that acts on behalf.
