And when He warned them about their negligence regarding Allah, the soul yearned for what is for their opposers. It was as if it was said: So what is for those who oppose them in Allah? It was said: Paradise. It was as if it was said: And what is it? It was said: Indeed, it is in the majesty, and the exalted beauty, and the noble qualities, from that which is beyond attainment, except by the examples. It was said: What is like it? It was said: ﴿The example of Paradise which﴾ And when the intended purpose was the arrival of the truthful promise, especially since he knew that the promise is Allah, he built his saying for the action: ﴿The righteous are promised﴾ and the news is omitted, its estimation being: What I narrate to you, and that it is gardens: palaces and trees. (p-354) Al-Zajjaj said: The news is a garden informed about by what has been mentioned to be a representation of what is absent from us by what we observe ﴿flowing﴾ And since it would be - if the flowing water encompassed it - a sea, not gardens, he included the preposition to indicate that it is specific to some of its lands, and he said: ﴿from beneath it﴾ meaning the palaces and trees ﴿the rivers﴾ and it was said: This mentioned is the news as you say: The description of Zayd is dark-skinned.

And when this is a true watering in a land that is of the utmost purity and goodness, it was a cause for the continuity of its fruits and the retention of its tenderness. Therefore, he followed it with his saying: ﴿Its fruit﴾ meaning its edible fruit ﴿is everlasting﴾ that does not cease ever ﴿and its shade﴾ is not like in this world, it is not replaced by the sun or anything else. Abu Hayyan said: You say: I illustrated the thing - if I described it and made it closer for understanding, and this is not a type of example, for it is like His saying ﴿And to Allah belongs the highest example﴾ [An-Nahl: 60] meaning the highest attribute - thus he said, and it can be that this is true, and there is something omitted, which is a garden from the gardens of this world that rivers flow beneath it - to the end of it, and this is from the words of Al-Zajjaj.

Then he began another narration, magnifying its status and glorifying its matter in His saying, the Exalted. (p-355) ﴿That﴾ meaning the exalted garden of high attributes ﴿is the end﴾ meaning the last of matters ﴿for those who are conscious of Allah﴾ Then he repeated the warning for the disbelievers and said: ﴿And the end﴾ meaning the ultimate matter ﴿of the disbelievers﴾ in the Most Merciful, which includes disbelief [in the revelation] and what was revealed to him ﴿is the Fire﴾.
