Commentary
And when the command of Allah is in accordance with the method of reason, even if it is beyond its reach and cannot be attained without a guide, He said: ﴿And those who maintain﴾ meaning from everything in a continuous manner ﴿what Allah has commanded﴾ meaning that to which belongs all command; and He said: ﴿to be maintained﴾ without "maintain it" so that it is commanded to maintain it twice, and it indicates the renewal of the connection whenever it is severed by a severer, continuously, due to the evidence from both reason and transmission that supports this; and the connection is: the joining of the second to the first without any gap.
And when the evidence guides to the fact that Allah, exalted is He, is hoped for and feared, He said: ﴿and they fear their Lord﴾ meaning the One who is good to them, lest He take vengeance on them if they oppose by severing the good. And when reason indicates, after the guidance of the messengers, the ability to return by the ability to begin, and the fear of Him is the greatest of fears, He, exalted is He, said: ﴿and they fear﴾ meaning they find fear as a continuous presence (p-330) ﴿the evil of reckoning﴾ which is the discussion in it without pardon. And from the beginning of the Surah to here is a detail of His saying, exalted is He, at the beginning of Al-Baqarah: ﴿This is the Book, there is no doubt in it, a guidance for the righteous﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 2] ﴿who believe in the unseen﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 3] with consideration to His saying at the end of Yusuf: ﴿It was not a fabricated narrative﴾ [Yusuf: 111].
