Commentary
Then he narrated his response by saying, "He said," meaning Abu him, peace be upon him, affirming his words: "I will surely ask my Lord to forgive you," meaning I will seek for Him to forgive. "My Lord," meaning the One who has always done good to me and raised me in the best upbringing. He is deserving of forgiving my children so that He does not separate me from them in the abode of eternity. And lordship is a dominion that is the most complete dominion in all respects. It is the dominion of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, for creating souls by bringing them into existence and managing them in the most complete management of existence and non-existence, and the changing from one state to another in all matters without effort. Then he explained this by saying, "Indeed, He alone is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful." All of that is to soothe their hearts and correct their hopes so that their hope may strengthen. Thus, He, glorified and exalted is He, will be according to their expectation of the fulfillment of the response and the realization of their request. Perhaps he expressed "I will surely" to precede these two sentences over the matter due to what it mentioned of the purposes. It was said that he delayed the supplication until the night prayer, and it was said until the night of Friday. It was also said that it can be inferred from this that seeking needs in youth is easier than in old age.
