Then he resumed recounting their response and said: ﴿They said﴾ meaning those who heard him, what he thought of them, swearing by what indicated their astonishment, which is ﴿By Allah﴾ meaning the Greatest King. They confirmed, for their knowledge, that he denies their words, and so does everyone who knows His perfection. ﴿Indeed, you are in your old error﴾ meaning in a state that has become a condition for you. ﴿The old﴾ meaning your mistake in the belief of Joseph's life; Al-Rummani said: and error is straying from the direction of what is correct.
