Commentary
So it is as if it was said: Indeed, that saying, despite its obscenity, does not benefit them or their father at all. Did they limit themselves to it? It was said: No, rather they said, seeking what would benefit them: O noble one. They addressed him in a manner befitting the dignitaries so that he would be compassionate towards them. Indeed, he has an old father, meaning in age and status, and he is deeply attached to him. He cannot bear to be separated from him nor can he be patient without him. So take one of us in his place and be kind to his father by sending him to him. Indeed, we see you as one of the doers of good, meaning we know you with knowledge that is like seeing, or according to what we have seen of you, from those who are proficient in the quality of doing good. So act in our matter according to your usual kindness.
