Commentary
They said, 'We will lose it.' It is as if the container had two names. They expressed it here by saying, 'the king's cup.' The cup is the vessel in which one drinks. 'And for whoever brings it' means to show it and return it without searching or trouble. 'A load of a camel' is with the kasra: a pot of goods prepared to be carried on the back. As for the load in the belly, it is with the fathah. 'And I am its guarantor' means I am responsible and a surety to deliver it to him. The singular pronoun used at times and the plural at others indicates that the killer is one, and that he was attributed to all due to their acceptance of him. In the verse, there is an explanation of what the state of a person's astonishment necessitates, to confirm the matter and to refrain from hastening to what is not permissible to say.
