Commentary
And when the Exalted informed about their entering the city, He informed about their entering for their need of Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him. He fought: "And when they entered" meaning his sons, blessings and peace be upon him, "upon Yusuf" in this second visit. "He took his brother" his full brother Benjamin after they said to him: "This is our brother whom you commanded us about; we have brought him." He said: "You have succeeded, and you will find that with me;" and the taking in is the gathering of the soul by bringing it to a place of comfort. The reason for his taking him in is that it was the command of each two of them to eat separately, so Benjamin remained without a second. He said: "This one will eat with me." Then he said to them: "Each two of you in a house from five houses that I have prepared for them, and this one will be with me in my house." This separation is in accordance with what their father commanded them regarding the separation of entry. It is as if it was said: What did he say to him? Did he inform him about himself or did he conceal that from him as he did with the rest of his brothers? It was said: Rather, "He said" informing him, because there is no reason that necessitates concealing it from him - as will be explained. Confirming what the brother has from his denial of the length of his absence, the change in his conditions, and the cutting off of hope from him: "Indeed, I am your brother" Yusuf. Then he caused him to say: "So do not be distressed" meaning do not bring upon yourself distress. It is the dislike and sadness "because of what they" meaning the rest of the brothers, as they are firmly established in it "do" of what causes us harm, even if they claim that they built that action on knowledge. And we have gathered for him the best that can be gathered for a meeting, and do not inform them of anything from that. Then indeed, he filled their containers as they desired.
