And when they opened, that is, the children of Yaqub, blessings and peace be upon him, found their goods, that is, their containers which they had carried from Egypt. They found their merchandise, that is, what was with them from Canaan by purchasing food.

And when the joyful is the absolute response, he built for the action his saying: 'It was returned to them.' And the finding is the appearance of something to the soul by a sense or what suffices for it. So it is as if it was said: What did they say? It was said: 'They said' to their father: 'O our father, what?' that is, what thing do we want? So it is as if he said to them: What is the news? They said, clarifying that and affirming the question in bringing back their brother: 'This is our merchandise.' Then they clarified the meaning of the indication by their saying: 'It was returned to us.' Is there more than this in honor?

And when the estimation was: So we will return with it to him with our brother, so that he may see our sincerity and truthfulness, he built upon that his saying: 'And we will provide for our family.' That is, we will bring to them the provisions by our returning to him; and the provisions are the foods that are carried from one country to another. 'And we will protect our brother,' so nothing will befall him of what we fear for him, affirming the promise of protecting him and clarifying that there is no harm in his travel. And it indicates what is in the Torah - that one of them was imprisoned to bring their younger brother - his saying: 'And we will increase the measure of a camel.' That is, the total of what we will bring back to him will be twelve loads, for each of us is a load, and for the imprisoned one, there are two loads - for his first and second trips. And that is because he would not give except one load for each head, so it is as if he gave them what he prepared for them except for nine loads. So it is as if it was said: Will he respond to you regarding that in this time? They said: Yes, because 'That is an easy measure' compared to what we have seen of his generous character and the greatness of his kingdom and the magnificence of his ambition.
