And when Ya'qub, blessings and peace be upon him, knew from this vision what his son would attain in prophethood and kingship, he said: "And thus" meaning: your Lord has chosen you to be informed of this great vision that indicates honor and dignity. He likened what He has chosen you for to "He chooses you" meaning: He selects you and gathers for you the high matters. "Your Lord" is the one who nurtures you with kindness for kingship and prophethood. "And He teaches you from" meaning: some of "the interpretation of the stories" [of] the vision and others that Allah has decreed, and the traditions of the prophets, and the subtleties of what the spiritual and physical creations indicate. This is because kingship and prophethood cannot be established except with knowledge and the ultimate interpretation that the meaning reaches. This is the understanding of the hadith, which is wisdom because it reveals what is to be interpreted regarding his matter, from which the benefit is relied upon. Most of its use is in visions. "And He completes His favor" with prophethood "upon you" with justice and adherence to the straight path "and upon the family of Ya'qub" meaning: all your brothers and whom Allah wills from their descendants. So He makes their favor in this world connected to the favor of the Hereafter, because He expressed them in this vision by the guiding stars. The term 'family' is only used for those who have significance and honor, and its addition is restricted to informing the speakers. Al-Raghib said: As for the family of the cross, if its transmission is correct, it is rare, and it is used for those whose family has no significance. "As He completed it upon your forefathers."

And when their existence did not encompass the past, He introduced the neighbor and said: "Before" meaning: [from] before this time; then He clarified the forefathers by his grandfather and the grandfather of his father, saying: "Ibrahim" meaning: by kinship and other forms of honor, and his son "Ishaq" by prophethood, and He made the prophets and kings from his offspring. The completion of the favor is the ruling with its continuity upon its purity from any blemish in it by its deficiency.

And when that cannot be achieved except with knowledge that encompasses all the causes to establish from them what is suitable, and the wisdom by which that cause is judged so that it is not resisted by another cause. The context of knowledge is more appropriate for what he mentioned from the knowledge of interpretation along with what preceded from his saying at the end of that: "And to Allah belongs the unseen of the heavens and the earth" [Hud: 123] and the verse that resembles that at the beginning of this. He said: "Indeed, your Lord is Knowing" meaning: possessing profound knowledge. "Wise" meaning: possessing profound wisdom, which is placing things in their most perfect positions.
