And when the meaning was, as has been mentioned: He made the treasures of the earth accessible to him. Then the fruitful years came, and he managed them with what Allah had taught him. Then the barren years came, and they caused all the land of Egypt and its surrounding regions in the Levant and elsewhere to become barren. He brought forth what he had stored from the produce of seven years gradually, first by first, as was prescribed for him by the 'All-Knowing, the Wise.' The people heard about it, and they came to him for selection from every direction. And the ten brothers of Yusuf came for this reason. Their father swore by Benjamin, Yusuf's brother, peace be upon him, for their mother was with him. This indicated his ease in granting them permission, for he said: 'So they entered upon him.' This is because he was personally managing affairs, as is the practice of capable and prudent individuals, who do not trust others with their matters. And he recognized them because he was anticipating their arrival due to his knowledge of the drought in their land and his concern for them. He knew their appearances in their clothing and otherwise, and there had not been much change in their condition. Their separation from him as men, while they were denying him, was firmly established in their description of him, due to the lack of it occurring to them after a long time, along with the changes that had occurred to him due to age, and the addition of attendants, clothing, the state of the city, the majesty of kingship, the honor of authority, and other things that would make the familiar seem strange to them. According to what He, the Exalted, said: 'Surely, you will inform them of their affair, and they will not perceive.' And entering means transitioning to an environment, while knowledge clarifies a thing in the heart, such that if it were seen, it would distinguish between it and that which is not of its specific attribute.
