Commentary
Then He increased them with His saying: ﴿Then comes﴾ and He expressed it with the preposition for what has passed, saying: ﴿After that﴾, meaning the great drought, "a year," which is twelve months. Its counterpart is the year and the season, and it is taken from the sciences - for what is with its people [in it] from the long swimming - as said by Al-Rummani. The expression with it, rather than its synonyms, indicates that there will be in it - from the abundance of irrigation and the appearance of fertility and abundant blessings - a great matter, and that is why He followed it with His saying: "in it."
And when the one who is longing for it is the relief, while it is known that none can provide it except Allah, He said, establishing the passive: ﴿The people will be relieved﴾ from the rain, which is the rain, or from the relief, which is the aid. In the first case, it is permissible to build it from the trilateral and from the quadrilateral; it is said: Allah relieved the land and He relieved it: He rained upon it. In the second case, it is specifically quadrilateral; it is said: He sought relief from Him, so He relieved him, from the relief which is a wawiy, and its meaning is the benefit that comes at the height of his need by negating harm. The rain is a yayyi, which is the rain that comes at the time of need ﴿and in it﴾, meaning that good year.
And when the pressing is for oils and others, it can only be by His grace, He said: ﴿They press﴾, meaning they extract the juices of things and their essences. It is as if He took from the end of the drought the beginning of the fertility indicated by the pressing in the vision of the questioner, and the greenery and the butter in the vision of the king, for it is the opposite of drought. And every two opposites, the end of one is the beginning of the other, without a doubt. So the messenger came and informed the king of that, and it amazed him, and it occurred to him that it was true.
