Commentary

And when he completed the consultation, he returned to the remainder of the statement of the vision, and he said: ﴿Then there will come﴾. And when the duration of the coming is not extensive for the time of distance, he brought the neighbor and said: ﴿After that﴾, meaning the great matter, which is the seven that you will work in this work, "seven" meaning years ﴿severe﴾ with the great drought, and they are what your companion's vision indicated, who had his sustenance taken away by the birds, and his spirit moved by the overpowering fate. And the vision of the king indicated it from the lean cows and the dry ears of grain ﴿they eat﴾. He attributed the eating to them metaphorically, regarding the eating of their people, to affirm the eating ﴿what you have sent forth﴾, meaning by saving from the grains for them. And the sending forth is the bringing closer to the front. And he gave them glad tidings that the hardship will pass and that they had not exhausted what they had prepared, and he said: ﴿Except for a little of what you will secure﴾. And securing is preserving, which is placing something in what is like a stronghold - this is the interpretation of the vision.
