Commentary
So it is as if it was said: What did he say to him? It was said: "He said": Its interpretation is that you ﴿تَزْرَعُونَ﴾ means you create the planting. It is news of the unseen, so it is more settled in the meaning of the words. And it can be a report in the sense of a command. ﴿سَبْعَ سِنِينَ دَأبًا﴾ means you are diligent and striving - and دَأْب is the continuation of something upon its habit - as your vision indicated by the time of the wine which can only be after sufficiency. And the vision of the king regarding the fat cows and the green ears indicated that these seven will be - as you know - among the most common conditions of time in its middle with the fertility of one land and the barrenness of another, and the inability of water to a spot and its flooding of another - as indicated by the دَأْب: Then he guided them to what they can strengthen themselves with against what comes of evil, and he said: ﴿فَما حَصَدْتُمْ﴾ means of anything because of that planting - and الحَصْد is the cutting of the crop after its ripening - in that fertile seven. ﴿فَذَرُوهُ﴾ means leave it in every case ﴿فِي سُنْبُلِهِ﴾ so that it does not spoil by weevil or otherwise ﴿إلا قَلِيلا مِمّا تَأْكُلُونَ﴾ Abu Hayyan said: He indicated with a beneficial opinion according to the food of Egypt and its wheat which does not last two years in any way except by the means of keeping it in the ear - ended.
