So he came to him and said, the cupbearer who was sent after his arrival to him, calling out to him with the call of closeness, affectionately to him: "O Yusuf." And he increased in affection by saying: "O trustworthy one," meaning the eloquent one in truthfulness and affirmation of what deserves to be affirmed, based on what we have experienced from him and seen manifest upon him. "Interpret for us" meaning mention to us the judgment "in seven" and distinguish the number with the plural form which is for the few, as has been mentioned previously. So he said: "Fat cows," meaning he saw them, the king, "being eaten by seven" meaning from the cows "lean ones," meaning very emaciated. And in "seven ears of grain" is the plural of ear of grain, which is the collection of grain from the crop, "green" and in "seven others" meaning from the ears of grain "dry." And he presented the answer to the question in the style of hope, either following the customs of the wise in not deciding on future matters, or because he regretted after sending him, fearing that the interpretation might be something he could not confront the king with. So he resolved to escape - on this assumption - or in haste for Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, to give the interpretation so that he might hurry back, for the people are in utmost eagerness towards him. So he said: "Perhaps I will return to the people" before a barrier prevents me.

[And when their belief in Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, and their knowledge thereafter of his virtue and their acting upon what he commanded them is presumed, he said]: "Perhaps they will know," meaning so that they may have hope that they will know your virtue or what indicates that from good or evil, so that they may know in every case what they can do.
