Commentary

So it is as if it was said: What did he say when she accused him of this? It was said: He said, defending himself, not exposing her, "She" with the pronoun of the third person due to his shyness from confronting her with a gesture or a pronoun of address. "She tempted me regarding myself" and he did not say that except when she compelled him to it by attributing to him betrayal, and his truthfulness, by my life, in what he said does not need further explanation than the situation they were in, which is that they were at the door. If the request were from him, they would not have been except in her place where she sits, which is the front of the house and the most honorable position in it. And when every righteous person for testimony is sufficient, there was no need to specify him. He said: "A witness" meaning a great one "from her people" because the people are greater in testimony. A nursing infant with his innocence - this was transmitted by Al-Rummani from Ibn Abbas and Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with them, and Sa'id ibn Jubair, just as a boy from the people of Yamama witnessed for the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, on the Day of the Farewell Pilgrimage, on the day he was born, that he is the Messenger of Allah, so he was called: The Blessed One of Yamama.

So that witness said: "If his shirt" meaning in what will be clear to you "was torn" meaning it was torn in a complete manner "from the front" meaning from the direction of what is facing his body. "Then she spoke the truth" and there must be an estimation of the action of clarification, because the conditions do not have meanings except in the future, even if their words are in the past.

And when her truthfulness is not conclusive in preventing his truthfulness, he said: "And he is among the liars" because if it were not for his approaching - while she is pushing him away or fleeing from him, and he is following her and stumbling in his shirt - the tearing would not have been from the front.
