Commentary
And when that which was to occur from their affair was completed in this most decisive manner and the most upright path from its beginning to its end, he said, indicating that it is a sufficient proof in affirming the claim of prophethood, addressing those who do not understand this truth as others do. He is comforting him, affirming his heart, and explaining his chest, reminding that it is something that should be asked about: ﴿That﴾ meaning the high-ranking news that we narrated in a way that incapacitates the eloquent among its bearers and narrators, so how about others ﴿of the news of the unseen﴾ meaning its news that has a great significance ﴿We reveal it to you﴾ and he expressed it in the present tense to depict the state of the noble revelation and to indicate that it still accompanies him, revealing to him what he wants. "And" the state is that you "were not with them" meaning with the brothers of Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, at this very strange news ﴿When﴾ meaning at the time ﴿they agreed upon their affair﴾ on a single opinion regarding throwing Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, [into the well] after he had sworn an oath ﴿And they were plotting﴾ meaning they were planning harm in secrecy, from the plotting which is killing - for you to know that by observation, and the absence of your learning that from a human like the absence of your being with them at that time. And it is established for every person of understanding that there is no knowledge except by teaching, so it is confirmed that there is no teacher for you except Allah, as your brothers among the prophets, blessings and peace be upon them, knew. [What a] clear proof that is unmatched, and this (p-236) [is] the theological doctrine, which is the presentation of an argument that, after accepting the premises, necessitates the desired conclusion, and it is a great mockery from one who lied against the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him.
